Instructional Methods and Techniques

The self-pace coursework will be presented in the form of online instructiontion, Computer-Assisted Instruction (CAI), and textbooks.

 

In addition to the above, the following instructional strategies will be utilized in this course:

  • Illustrated lectures (as appropriate) on specific topics.

  • Class discussions on specific problems relating to the topic.

  • Study assignments on specific drafting concepts.

  • Individual and small group conferences (as time permits) requested by the students to focus on specific questions relating to computer-aided drafting.

Course Decription

This course will develop drafting fundamentals per American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Y14.41.  This standard establishes the essential requirements applicable for the preparation and revision of engineering drawings.  The course will take you through the basic drafting procedures: creating drawings of various sizes, creating various views of the part, adding dimensions, notes, and labels and general drawing arrangment.  Additional topics takes you through creating types of section views, creating drafting symbols, and assembly drawings.

Upon completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Define drafting, design, and graphic communication and how it relates to various disciplines.

  • Describe the use of equipment, materials, and techniques used in drafting environments.
