Course Description
This course is the basic CAD software course. Topics covered are safety, tools, equipment, media and reproduction, sketching, scale usage, drawing formats, alphabet of lines, lettering and geometric construction, computer literacy through CAD, operating systems and file utilities, software functions, office functions, hardware applications, coordinates, drawing environment, plotting, printing, multi-view drawing environment, geometry modifications and dimensioning, symbol library development, and basic CAD applications. Verification of learning will be established when you have correctly performing the procedures outlined in the chapter exercises, job sheets, and by scoring 85% or above on the chapter tests.
Major Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course you will be able to:
1. Execute the CAD software.
2. Create, modify, store, and retrieve 2D drawing files.
Specific Objectives

Manipulate the CAD interface, command execution and setup the design
environment.

Create geometry and manage objects via layers.

Create accurate geometric shapes, constructions, and selection sets.

Accurately annotate drawing information and manipulate display options.

Configure plotting devices and plot various drawings.

Utilize various editing commands.

Demonstrate efficient drawing and editing technique.

Instructional Methods and Techniques
The coursework will be presented in the form of video tutorials, instructor lead one-on-one lectures, and textbook.
In addition to the above, the following instructional strategies will be utilized in this course:

Illustrated lectures (as appropriate) on specific topics.

Class discussions on specific problems relating to the topic.

Study assignments on specific drafting concepts.

Individual and small group conferences (as time permits) requested by the students to focus on specific questions relating to computer-aided drafting.
